The specials consist of five episodes that expand on moments and characters from the main series. These short episodes offer a mix of humor, emotional depth, and additional backstory, enriching the overall narrative. In "The Blind Alchemist," Edward and Alphonse investigate a man who claims to have performed human transmutation, only to uncover a tragic secret. "Simple People" is a lighthearted episode featuring Winry and Riza Hawkeye, where Winry strives to improve her automail skills. "The Tale of Teacher" reveals the backstory of Izumi Curtis, the brothers' alchemy teacher, showing the struggles she endured. "Yet Another Man’s Battlefield" explores Roy Mustang’s experiences during the Ishvalan War, emphasizing his ambition and the emotional weight of his decisions. Lastly, "The Chronicle of Teacher" offers a comedic look at Izumi's training, showcasing her determination and fiery personality.
1El alquimista ciego
Ed y Al se enteran de un alquimista ciego llamado Judau que supuestamente había realizado una transmutación humana exitosa. Al reunirse con él, Judau le revela a Ed que una joven llamada Rosalie resucitó a través de la alquimia, con sus ojos pagados a cambio equivalente. Sin embargo, la señora se niega a enseñarle a Ed sobre las técnicas utilizadas. Rosalie lleva a Al a una habitación con el cadáver arrugado de una niña adentro. Ella revela esto como resultado de la transmutación de la verdadera Rosalie, mientras que ella misma es una niña llamada Amy que fue adoptada debido a su apariencia similar. Cuando Ed llega a la escena, la señora le dice que su difunto esposo ocultó la verdad sobre el fracaso de la transmutación a Judau, quien realmente quería resucitar a Rosalie. Ed y Al luego se van, llevando este conocimiento con ellos también.
2Personas sencillas
Mientras regresaban a Resembool para reparar el brazo de Ed, Ed y Al compran aretes como recuerdo para Winry para evitar que se enoje por el automail roto. Más tarde, Ed pelea con un asesino y su automail se rompe nuevamente, y compra más aretes para Winry para evitar su ira. Winry explica que decidió perforarse las orejas después de conocer a Riza el día que Ed decidió convertirse en alquimista estatal. Mientras tanto, Riza le explica a su colega que se dejó crecer el cabello mucho después de conocer a Winry ese mismo día. Su colega comenta lo simple que es esa razón, y Riza dice que las razones siempre son simples. Para explicar su elección, comenta que todos viven en un mundo simple, donde cuando disparan a sus enemigos, sus enemigos mueren.
3Las historias del maestro
Cuando Izumi tenía 18 años, había viajado para encontrarse con el alquimista Silver Steiner para solicitar ser su aprendiz. Dándole solo un cuchillo, le dijo que sobreviviera un mes en Briggs Mountain y que lo consideraría. A medida que aprendió a defenderse y vivir de la vida silvestre, se dio cuenta del significado detrás de la alquimia, diciendo que uno es todo y todo es uno. Sin embargo, al regresar después de un mes, se da cuenta de que había estado hablando con el hermano mayor de Silver, Gold Steiner, que no es alquimista sino un especialista en combate cuerpo a cuerpo. Molesta, Izumi lo golpea y se va.
4Otro campo de batalla más del hombre
Roy Mustang, de 18 años, asiste a un campo de entrenamiento militar. Después de encontrarse con un grupo de personas mayores que son crueles con un recluta de Ishvalan llamado Heathcliff, Mustang se interesa por Hughes, quien supuestamente es amigo de ellos. Cuando Mustang descubre que los estudiantes de último año se meten con Heathcliff nuevamente, se pelea con ellos y Hughes lo respalda, teniendo las mismas creencias que Mustang. Los tres se hacen amigos y discuten sus razones para unirse al ejército. Sin embargo, más tarde, durante la guerra de Ishvalan, Mustang termina luchando contra Heathcliff, quien es asesinado por Hughes por dispararle a Mustang. Mustang luego cae en la desesperación y se enfrenta a Hughes, quien tiene que contener el dolor de sus pecados para poder sonreír frente a su esposa. Después de regresar a casa, Mustang ve a Hughes con su esposa y envidia su fuerza.
